Paul Carey

His radio broadcast career spanned six decades. While a student at Michigan State University, he began his radio career in 1949 at WCEN, in his hometown of Mt. Pleasant. After serving in the Korean Conflict, Carey spent three years at WKNX in Saginaw before joining WJR Radio in 1956. He initiated and hosted Michigan High School football and basketball scoreboards for 35 years. Detroit Piston play-by-play 1969-73, 1975-76 and 1981-82. Detroit Tiger play-by-play with Ernie Harwell for 19 years. Retired after the 1991 season. Named Michigan Sportscaster of the Year six times. Received Distinguished Service Award MHSCA, Big Ed Award Detroi-Chapter BBWWAA and Capital Cities Broadcasting "Lowell Thomas" Award. Inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1992.
