Mauri Rose

Rose's vast working-background in Michigan's auto industry that spans 29 years enabled him to become all-time great race dricer during 25 years of competition. Won "Indy's" 1941 race relieving Floyd Davis on 72nd lap, in 4:20:36.24 averaging 115.117 mph; won 1947 race in 4:10:23.33 averaging 119.814 mph. Considered racing a hobby rather than an occupation. Was noted dirt-track driver, winning American Automobile Association Championship, 1936 and runner-up 1939. Drove "Indy" 500 15 times. Inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1972.
