On Thursday, September 15th, the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame celebrated the 55th Class of Inductees in grand style with a terrific Induction Event held at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Beginning with the private VIP reception followed by the strolling supper, the Induction Ceremony itself was emceed by HOF member Frank Beckmann. In addition, the event was well attended by some of the greatest names in sports including Ray Scott, Eddie Murray, James Edwards, Rick Mahorn, Reggie McKenzie, George Perles and many others.
Included in the new class of inductees were football stars Carl Banks, Jerome Bettis and Dick LeBeau, UM coaching legends Lloyd Carr and Carol Hutchins, star runner Greg Meyer, fast-pitch softball legend John Spring and longtime Detroit high school coach and mentor, Ron Thompson. In addition, the venerable Detroit Athletic Club was honored with the Sports Legacy Award, and Chuck Kuskowski received the Tony Filippis Courage Award.
