DETROIT (June 12, 2007) The Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (MSHOF) today announced the Class of 2007 at an event at the Detroit Athletic Club.
As selected by statewide sporting media, MSHOF members and selected sports administrators of university and professional teams, and ratified by Karl Fava C.P.A., the inductees are:
- The Captain, Detroit Red Wing and NHL legend, Steve Yzerman
- Long-time local amateur hockey supporter and NHL team owner, Peter Karmanos
- WJR AM play-by-play announcer and pioneering sports talk host, Frank Beckmann
- University of Michigan great and Heisman Trophy winner, Desmond Howard
- Olympic gold medalist swimmer from Michigan State University, Clarke Scholes
- NHL Hall of Famer and Detroit Red Wing great Norm Ullman
- Detroit Piston player and 1974 NBA Coach of the Year, Ray Scott
- Olympic gold medalist and kayaking legend from Homer, Mich., Greg Barton
- University of Michigan great and NBA All-Star from Flint, Glen Rice
- Detroit Stars Negro League legend, Norman "Turkey" Stearnes
- "Ceciliaville" founder and Detroit basketball legend, Sammy Washington
