MICHIGAN SPORTS HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE OF PRO SPORTS TEAM THEME DAYS AT THE 2007 MICHIGAN STATE FAIR TO FEATURE INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS, LEGEND APPEARANCES, AUTOGRAPHS, SPORTS EDUCATION AND CAREER INFO & MUCH MORE!

DETROIT (August 27, 2007) – The Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (MSHOF) will host special Detroit pro sports teams' theme days and Hall of Fame legend appearances and autograph sessions at the 2007 Michigan State Fair open daily through September 3.

The Michigan Sports Hall of Fame FanFest Presented by the Joe Dumars Fieldhouse will celebrate one team each day including mascot appearances; merchandise; contests; and a host of fun-filled opportunities for fans of all ages.

Schedule

  • Tuesday, Aug. 28: Detroit Piston/Shock Day – including Hooper, Slam Dunk Team performance from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., and give-a-way items
  • Wednesday, Aug. 29: Detroit Red Wing Day – schedule to include player appearances
  • Thursday, Aug. 30: Detroit Tiger Day – SPECIAL availability of the 2006 American League Championship trophy – fans are welcome to take photos with the trophy, Paws will be on hand also
  • Friday, August 31: Detroit Lion Day – appearance by Lomas Brown and free interative events, Roary the mascot will also make a visit
  • Saturday, Sept. 1: Hall of Fame autograph signingsMickey Lolich – noon to 1 p.m.; Denny McLain & Eli Zaret – 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 2: Hall of Fame autograph signingsBill Gadsby – noon to 1 p.m; Denny McLain & Eli Zaret; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m
  • Monday, FanFest Fan Appreciation Day with special activities all day


The FanFest, an interactive fan experience the scope and scale of best-in-class professional sports fan events, opened on Wednesday, Aug. 22 and continues daily from noon to 7 p.m. through September 3. Entry to the FanFest is free as are a variety of activities. Other activities require tickets that can be purchased at the FanFest. Families and sports lovers visiting the Michigan State Fair can try their skills at: a fast-pitch baseball batting cage; timed three-point shot basketball challenge; a multi-station football obstacle course just like the pros use; interactive, a full-action video golf simulator; and hockey and lacrosse skill zones. For youth, the highlight is a pro-style Wiffle® ball batting cage complete with pitching machine and big-league home run fence. Also featured will be the All-Star Sports Stage that will offer a variety of sports-themed activities throughout the duration of the event, and one-of-kind historical sports exhibits.

"The Hall's presence at this tremendous historical event will be another important outreach element in the evolution of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame as a statewide organization that provides sports excitement, fun and education throughout Michigan."

Also included in the FanFest will be an opportunity to learn about the exciting educational opportunities offered by Northwood University's Entertainment, Sport & Promotion Management program and the Wayne State University's Sports Administration program that can lead to careers in the multi-billion dollar global sports-event industry.
